Finding the right funding opportunity

There are loads of opportunities for funding your research stay with Fraunhofer. Which financier or grant is the best fit depends on your individual background, situation, and needs. Here is an overview of some of the most important ones.


DAAD - the world's largest international exchange organisation:

  1. Joint PhD Fellowship Program in Germany CAPES/DAAD:
    Full Doctorate (3-4 years in Germany), Sandwich Doctorate (7-24 months) or Sandwich Doctorate with Cotutelage (18- 24 months)
    Benefits:
    - Monthly payment
    - Travel allowance
    - Health insurance
    - German preparatory course
  2. Co-funded Research Grants - Short Term Grants
    Financing complementary to the scholarship in Brazil, in cooperation with CAPES and Research Support Foundations (FAPs). Duration from 2 to 6 months. No interruption of the national scholarship and no change in the maximum duration of the scholarship.
    Benefits:
    - Monthly payment
    - Travel allowance
    - Health insurance

DFG - the central self-governing research funding organisation in Germany:

For vacancies in ongoing projects funded by the DFG for doctoral or post-doctoral candidate: Consult the GEPRIS platform
On the platform, it is possible to search for names of projects, people or even institutions. The submission process for vacancies is done directly through the Principal Investigator (PI) of the project and not through the DFG.
