Reducing costs and times, understanding risks, increasing the accuracy of results and gaining competitive advantage are some of the major challenges facing the industry today, and the Big Data phenomenon has emerged as an outlet for understanding behaviors, analyzing numbers, produce technologies and devise strategies to improve processes and results.

In Brazil, technology is expanding slowly. We see examples in the area of security, in retail and even in education but the steps are slow. It is necessary to develop a strategic vision and this will only be possible through a P&D effort that develops new solutions and processes.

In order to discuss this issue, VDI Brazil will bring together the most renowned specialists in the field. Among them, Professor Dr. Hans-Jörg Bullinger, who as President of the Fraunhofer Society between 2002 and 2012, has boosted the institution's worldwide prestige by doubling its size in terms of turnover and personnel. He has consistently driven two things forward during his tenure: First: strategy development and portfolio process. Second: internal and external networking. Based on this, Fraunhofer successfully established itself as a powerful network for innovation, both domestically and abroad.

Before joining the chair, Bullinger was director of the Corporate Planning Department of the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing and Engineering and Automation (IPA), as well as co-founder and director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering (IAO). As adviser to Chancellors Schröder and Merkel, he defended the importance of an applied research agenda focused on the demand of industry and the competitiveness of the German economy in the long term.

The event will be held on April 24th from 10:00 a.m. to 6:45 p.m., during FEIMEC - International Machinery and Equipment Fair.
